Guayakí Brand Yerba Mate

I used to drink a shitload of Energy drinks back in the day. Then I switched to coffee for a while. Now I’m starting to drink yerba mate, specifically Guayakí Brand Yerba Mate. It claims to have “the strength of coffee, the health benefits of tea, and the euphoria of chocolate.” I don’t know about all that, but I do know that it provides me with a quick pick-me-up. It’s refreshing and more hydrating than most standard sugary energy drinks and it doesn’t leave me all jittery. It come in bottles and cans with a few different flavors, but I suggest that you try a can of Enlighten Mint as your first foray into the world of Yerba mate. It’s crisp and delicious and you shan’t be disappointed. Guayakí Brand Yerba Mate is gaining in popularity and it’s about to blow up and become super trendy. You might as well jump on the bandwagon now. You don’t want to be accused of being a loser later.

Rockstar Super Sours Green Apple Energy Drink

Rockstar Super Sours Green Apple Energy Drink is an energy drink that tastes like sour green apples. It’s only slightly sour, not super sour like it says in its name. That’s okay though, you don’t want your energy drink to taste super sour. I can’t decide if I like it or not. It tastes like somebody dropped a Warhead candy into a can of Rockstar. If that sounds good then you would probably like this. If it doesn’t then you should probably avoid this. It contains no juice, has 66 grams of sugar per 16-oz can, and includes delicious ingredients like pantothenic acid, niacinamide, inositol, pryidoxine, hydrochloride, and cyanocobalamin. Energy drinks are scary if you read the label. I’m not going to do that anymore.

Red Bull The Summer Edition

Now that summer is over, it seems fitting to finally review Red Bull The Summer Edition. You’ve had regular Red Bull. You’ve had Red Bull Sugarfree. You might have tried the Red, Blue, and Silver ones. It was a 7-Eleven exclusive, so unless you ventured in search of a Slurpee you probably missed out on your chance of snagging one. The Summer Edition comes in a bright yellow can. I only saw it the 12 oz. size, but it might have been available in other amounts. It has a tropical fruit taste. It’s mostly a citrus and pineapple flavor with some mango and papaya. I like it. I bought a few cans of the stuff because I know the window is closing on them. You should get them while you can. It’s a great excuse to go to 7-Eleven. Arm yourself with twenty bucks and live like a king.

Java Monster Mean Bean

Java Monster Mean Bean is an energy drink infused with coffee. Or maybe it’s coffee infused with an energy drink. All I know for sure is that it wakes me up in the morning, it makes me shake, and I think I’m developing a heart murmur. It tastes like iced coffee with cream and an excessive amount of sugar. There is no way that this beverage is beneficial to your health, but I still can’t stop drinking it. I like it. Not as much as Red Bull or a regular cup of coffee, but it’s a nice way to mix things up in the morning. I’m not a big fan of Monster energy drinks, but this one is enjoyable. It’s not as good as a Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso, but it gets the job done.

Arizona Rx Energy Herbal Tonic

Arizona Rx Energy Herbal Tonic is an Invigorating Blend of Green Tea, Tropical & Citrus Fruits, Panax Ginseng, Eleuthero Root, Guarana, Schisandra, and Vitamins A, C, & E. It’s not really healthy for you, so don’t be fooled by that “Herbal Tonic” nonsense. It’s got all kinds of additives and preservatives and it’s loaded with sugar. I’m not sure how energizing it is, but it’s very drinkable and refreshing and gives you a little caffeine buzz. It has a sweet, fruity taste with just a little tartness thrown in for balance. There are a lot of better energy drinks on the market, but the price is what sets this one apart. It’s only 99¢ for a 23-ounce can, which is a good deal. An 8-ounce can of Red Bull costs more than two bucks for comparison. Red Bull is a lot better, but cheap is cheap. And sometimes cheap is good. Try it, you might like it. Even if you don’t, you only wasted a dollar.

Energizing Fruit Punch Kickstart by Mtn Dew

Kickstart by Mtn Dew is a new energy drink/soda that is a combination of Mtn Dew and fruit juice. It’s not Mountain Dew anymore… it’s Mtn Dew now. Pretty fucking extreme, right? There are two flavors available: Energizing Orange Citrus and Energizing Fruit Punch. I haven’t tried the Energizing Orange Citrus one yet, but I’m sipping on the Energizing Fruit Punch right now. It has kind of a weird taste, like watered down Mtn Dew mixed with a diet fruit punch flavored energy drink. There’s kind of an aftertaste. This is a stupid product. I don’t know why anyone would want to start off their day with a can of Mtn Dew mixed with fruit juice. This is a beverage that nobody wanted and nobody asked for. But they made it for some reason. Try it before they discontinue making it (which should be any second now).

Starbucks Refreshers Strawberry Lemonade

You know that feeling when you need caffeine and you’re torn between an energy drink and a coffee? Me neither, but Starbucks came up with an energy beverage for that very occasion. They have a line of energy drinks made with green coffee extract called Refreshers. Strawberry Lemonade is one of their flavors. It has a muted strawberry lemonade taste. It definitely tastes fruity and there are hints of strawberry, but I can’t really taste the lemonade part. And even though it’s made from coffee extract, it doesn’t taste like coffee at all. Let’s see, what else can I say about this drink… Um, it has 60 calories and 13 grams of sugar and is 25% juice. And I think that’s pretty good for a coffee-based energy drink that doesn’t taste anything like coffee. It’s better than the Raspberry Pomegranate flavor, but I would still take a Red Bull any day of the week. And it’s Friday, so I’ll take a Red Bull.

Starbucks Refreshers Raspberry Pomegranate

Starbucks Refreshers is a line of sparkling green coffee energy drinks that come in a few different flavor varieties. Raspberry Pomegranate seemed to be the most intriguing, so I grabbed it. It’s crisp and bubbly and doesn’t taste like a coffee drink. It tastes like a cheap, low calorie energy drink. It has that weird artificial sweetener aftertaste that lingers on your tongue a little too long. I can taste the raspberry flavor more than the pomegranate, and there are hints of apple and white grape juice as well. It’s a pretty mediocre energy drink. It’s lucky that it has the Starbuck logo on it, because brand recognition is more important than taste. I would only get this again if the store was out of every single other brand of energy drinks. It’s not bad… there are just so many better products out there.

Scheckter’s Organic Energy

Scheckter’s Organic Energy is an organic energy drink that promises to harness the power of nature to get you through the day. It claims to be all natural, all organic, and 100% vegetarian with no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives, no artificial colorants, and no toxic chemicals. Despite all that, it doesn’t taste half bad. It tastes like a typical energy drink, somewhere in between Rockstar and Red Bull. It’s effervescent and crisp, with a slight pomegranate flavor. I’m looking at their website now and it’s called Scheckter’s because it’s named after the founder. But they spell his name two different ways. He’s either Toby Schecter or Toby Scheckter. It’s not a good sign if they can’t decide which one it is. Maybe they should harness the power of spell check. All in all, this is a pretty good energy drink, and I would recommend it to any tired hippie. They love organic shit.

Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso

You’re feeling drained and need a quick pick-me-up but you don’t know if you want coffee or an energy drink. That’s when you need to get a Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso. It’s espresso and cream in a small 6.5 oz. can. It’s a lot more bitter than a Frappuccino, but the cream helps smooth out the flavor. It has more caffeine than Red Bull. The small can of Red Bull has 80mg of caffeine and a Doubleshot Espresso has 130mg of caffeine. One is usually enough to give you the jitters for a few hours. Starbucks is kind of an obscure brand, but I have the feeling that they are going to blow up soon.

Red Bull – The Silver Edition

Red Bull has three new special flavors out: the Blue, Red, and Silver Editions. The Blue Edition is blueberry flavored, the Red Edition is cranberry flavored, and the Silver Edition is lime flavored. Because limes are silver. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just make a Green Edition instead, that would make more sense. I guess silver looked cooler on the shelf and they couldn’t think of a silver fruit so they settled on lime, because why the hell not? It’s a very clean looking can, which compliments the crisp flavor of the energy drink inside. If you’re a vodka and Red Bull person, I think this is the Red Bull for you. It would make an awesome mixer. It’s also good for when you need a quick pick-me-up and your crack dealer isn’t answering his phone. If you like Red Bull, you’ll like this.

Monster Energy

Monster Energy is not an energy drink; it’s an energy supplement. It says so right on the label. There are a lot of energy drinks/supplements on the market, and this is one of the big three. If Red Bull is Coke and Rockstar is Pepsi, then Monster would be RC Cola. It has a sweeter taste than Red Bull and Rockstar, but there’s something weird about the flavor. It’s hard to describe, it’s sweet and slightly fruity but I have no idea what fruit flavor it’s trying to emulate. It has caffeine, taurine, ginseng, B vitamins, L-carnitine, and a shit ton of sugar. I have no idea what L-carnitine is or what it does, but if it keeps me from passing out I’m all for it. You feel like your heart is going to explode if you chug it too fast. That can’t be a good thing.

Red Bull – The Blue Edition

Red Bull is the undisputed king of the energy drinks. But even they feel the need to shake things up a bit every once in a while and so they have created Silver, Red, and Blue Editions of their signature product. Silver is lime flavored, the red is cranberry flavored, and The Blue Edition is blueberry flavored. It’s not overly sweet and its taste vaguely resembles blueberries. It tastes sort of like a diet drink while it’s on your tongue, but there’s no lingering aftertaste. It takes some getting used to, but I like it more and more with each sip. If you like regular Red Bull, you’ll also like this. It also has a cool blue can with cool graphics and appearances are important. You’ll make friends if you buy The Blue Edition Red Bull.

Xyience Xenergy Cherry Lime

So there is a brand of energy drinks called Xenergy and it’s made by a company called Xyience and it makes my autocorrect go crazy. Apparently it’s the official energy drink of the UFC, so you know it kicks ass. There are a few different flavors; I snagged the Cherry Lime one. It doesn’t taste like Cherry Lime and it doesn’t taste good. It’s not bad though and there’s a slight aftertaste. It’s kind of bland and weak, it doesn’t have that kick that you expect from energy drinks. There’s no sugar and no carbs and no reason to get it again.

Rockstar Recovery Energy/Tea/Lemonade

For thousands of years there was just one main energy drink and it was called coffee. Then people created soda but that wasn’t enough and so we came up with energy drinks. And now everybody and their mom has their own line of energy drinks. Red Bull is the best energy drink, and Rockstar has a claim for second place. Rockstar has lots of different flavors and varieties and Rockstar Recovery Energy/Tea/Lemonade is one of their newer ones. It’s like an Arnold Palmer (half lemonade and half iced tea) but it has caffeine, taurine, ginseng, milk thistle, and electrolytes. Plus is only 10 calories so it’s just as healthy as water. You can drink it all day, everyday with no adverse effects. It has a slight aftertaste like most diet energy drinks, but a shot of vodka makes it unnoticeable.

Courage Juice Energy Drink

I’ve never even heard of Courage Juice until today. It has a cool name and a cool can that caught my eye. The can is all black with red letters and a red lion wearing a crown and holding a scepter. The actual drink is a pinkish-red color that looks like carbonated cranberry juice. It has a tangy-acidic taste like most energy drinks, but it’s a little sweeter than Red Bull. There’s no weird aftertaste like with Monster. It’s another energy drink in an already overcrowded market. It’s decent enough, but we already have way too much liquid crack on store shelves across the world. We don’t need another one. Nice can though. I’d buy it again just for that.

Rockstar Energy Cola

You know that you need caffeine but can’t decide between an energy drink or a soda. That’s when you should grab a Rockstar Energy Cola. It’s a cola with extra energy. Look for the black label. It’s not as good as Coke obviously, but it’s better than Jolt or other similar amped-up colas. There’s no weird aftertaste or any other weird drawbacks. In fact it’s better than water and you can live off of it without any adverse health effects. It even reverses the aging process and can bring dead houseplants back to life.
