Moscow Mule

I normally drink beer but I’ve been drinking a lot of vodka lately. I’ve mostly been making Moscow Mules. It’s a simple drink. Vodka, lime juice, spicy ginger beer, and ice. It’s crisp and refreshing, and it gets you drunk without much of a hangover the next day (provided you use a decent vodka). There are a few recipes out there but mine’s been working for me. I’ll pour two ounces of vodka into a twelve ounce glass (copper mugs are ideal, but I don’t have any on hand). I’ll squeeze and drop in three lime wedges, add ice, and top with ginger beer. Give it a quick stir, then sip and enjoy. Add more vodka as needed. But the trick lies with the ginger beer. Ginger beer is harder to find than ginger ale, but it adds spice and zing and is worth searching for. Reed’s, Bundaberg, and Gosling’s all make great ginger beer. The lime is also a key ingredient and often overlooked. Most recipes say to use lime juice. I think it’s important to use an actual lime. Squeeze that shit and drop it in. Let the lime rind release its oils and flavors into the cocktail. Enjoy the zest. Thank me later.

Skittles Orchards

I went to the corner store to get a Red Bull. As I was standing in line to pay for it, I noticed a pack of Skittles in an unfamiliar package color. An unfamiliar package color can only mean one thing: a new flavor lineup of Skittles. I snatched up the dark green bag and discovered new Skittles Orchards. All the candies are flavored like fruits that grow on trees. There’s Cherry, Red Apple, Orange, Peach, and Lime. Orchards is a pretty apt name for them. Cherry is tart. Red Apple is crisp tasting. Orange is the same Orange that you know and love from Skittles Original. Peach is sweet. And Lime is sour. I’m glad they brought back Lime Skittles. I missed those fuckers. Skittles Orchards are a welcome addition to the Skittles family. I tasted the rainbow, I encourage you to do the same.

Helados Mexico Limón

Helados Mexico Limón is a lime flavored frozen fruit bar that’s hecho en Mexico. That means it’s made in Mexico. I’ve had a few of their other flavors, but I think that Limón is the best. It has a zesty lime flavor with the perfect amount of sour. I always buy them two at a time because one isn’t enough. Once it hits your lips, it’s so good. My biggest and only complaint is that there isn’t a joke printed on the popsicle stick. Other than that, it’s a pretty amazing frozen ice treat from south of the border. Ole!

Diet Coke with Lime

Diet Coke with Lime is Diet Coca-Cola with lime flavor added to it. I’m not a big fan of diet sodas, but this one is pretty decent. It’s smooth and drinkable and doesn’t have much of an aftertaste. The lime flavor adds a nice, refreshing twist. It makes you wonder why they still haven’t released regular Coke with Lime. That would be even better. And it doesn’t make sense to have a diet alternative to a soda that doesn’t exist. All in all, Diet Coke with Lime is a solid zero-calorie soda that tastes better than regular Diet Coke because it has a citric zest and a less noticeable aftertaste. If I was stuck on an island and had a choice between Diet Coke, Diet Coke with Lime, and a coconut, I would probably choose the Diet Coke with Lime 99% of the time. Every once in a while I would take the coconut.

Simply Limeade

It’s a hot summer day and you want a cold refreshing drink. Lemonade seems to be the ideal drink for this situation but sometimes you want to mix things up a bit without going too crazy. That’s then you should reach for a limeade. It’s like lemonade, but it’s made with limes instead of lemons. It’s more sour, it’s more tart, and it’s an overall more intense citric experience. Simply Limeade is just one brand’s version of limeade, and it’s one of the few limeades that you might find in a convenience store. Limeade isn’t as popular as most other fruit beverages, so it’s harder to find a store that carries it. If you’re lucky enough to spot it, you should grab it. Limeade is a drink that doesn’t get much respect. Limeade is an occasional treat, an alternative to the mundane. You’ve never met anybody that prefers it over all other beverages. And if they do, they are fucking weird as shit and that’s enough of a reason to stop talking to them.

Krave Chili Lime Beef Jerky

Krave is a brand of gourmet jerky. They make beef jerky, they make turkey jerky, and they make dried meat in different flavors. Most jerky flavors are the same. You have original, you have a hot & spicy, and you have a teriyaki. Krave’s Chili Lime Beef Jerky is a unique flavor, and that’s what initially caught my eye. I detect a spicy-hot flavor from the chili powder, and it’s offset by the zesty and citric lime flavor. It’s a nice complimentary flavor. You might sweat a little, but it’s the perfect amount of spicy. The jerky itself is thick cut, moist and tender. It’s the kind of jerky that you want to share so that other people can experience it, but it’s so good that you want to keep it all for yourself. Krave makes gourmet jerky, and jerky is the new microbrew. It’s going to blow up. There will be more brands, more flavors, and a huge market for jerky products. You can eat it in the car, on the trail, as a snack, or as a survival food. I will repost this article in five years, and you will see that I’m right in all my jerky predictions.

Red Bull – The Silver Edition

Red Bull has three new special flavors out: the Blue, Red, and Silver Editions. The Blue Edition is blueberry flavored, the Red Edition is cranberry flavored, and the Silver Edition is lime flavored. Because limes are silver. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just make a Green Edition instead, that would make more sense. I guess silver looked cooler on the shelf and they couldn’t think of a silver fruit so they settled on lime, because why the hell not? It’s a very clean looking can, which compliments the crisp flavor of the energy drink inside. If you’re a vodka and Red Bull person, I think this is the Red Bull for you. It would make an awesome mixer. It’s also good for when you need a quick pick-me-up and your crack dealer isn’t answering his phone. If you like Red Bull, you’ll like this.

Limes

Limes are a small green citrus fruit. They grow on lime trees. They have a bitter, acidic flavor that goes well with a lot of food and drinks. It’s a staple ingredient of Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and Mexican cuisine. Limes are also extremely popular in bars. A margarita without a lime wheel is not a margarita. A gin & tonic without a lime garnish is unacceptable. A Corona without a lime wedge is downright blasphemous. It’s not a tequila shot without licking salt and biting a lime. Limes are a great source of Vitamin C, so you should always order drinks with a lime garnish at the bar. Who knew that preventing scurvy could be so much fun?

Gatorade Lime Cucumber

Gatorade has conquered the sports drink market and the only thing left for them to do is experiment with new flavors. Like Lime Cucumber. I saw this the other day and had to try it. It tastes like a watered down Lemon-Lime Gatorade with cucumbers in it and when you swallow you get a subtle citrus sensation. It’s refreshing but weird. It doesn’t fit in with Gatorade’s other products. And I can’t imagine chugging one. I’m adventurous and like trying new things but I think I’ll lay off the Lime Cucumber flavored sports drinks for a while.
