Being Productive Before Work

I usually work morning shifts, but every now and then my managers like to sneak in a closing night shift into my schedule. It keeps me on my toes. I don’t mind because night shifts give me the chance to be productive before work. It gives me enough time to do laundry, run errands, pay bills, and write blog posts about being productive before work. I don’t usually do anything fun or exciting before night shifts because I don’t want to get into shenanigans and feel the need to call out.

Today is one of those days where I work at night. I slept in an extra couple of hours and woke up feeling refreshed and invigorated. I drank a beer to kill that feeling, and then I did laundry. I’m still doing it actually. I just put everything into the dryer, then I skated home and started writing this article. Hopefully I will finish writing before I have to go back to the laundromat. This whole situation is very meta right now.

Well, the article is drawing to an end now and my laundry is still tumbling around in the dryer so I will call this a success. I still have a few hours to be productive. Maybe I will get a haircut. Most likely I will watch shit on YouTube or Netflix until it’s time to leave. You can’t deny that I was productive. I did some stuff.

No Housework Day

April 7th of each year is No Housework Day. It’s a day to procrastinate and be lazy about household chores. This is an actual holiday. You can Google it if you don’t believe me. But you should save some time and just trust me on this. It’s No Housework Day. You really don’t have to do any housework. How awesome is that? You might still have to run errands or go grocery shopping, but at least you don’t have to clean up the bathroom or wash dishes. You should celebrate by giving the maid a day off and letting the mess accumulate in the kitchen. It’s ok to slack off every once in a while, and this holiday is a reminder to do that.

Forgetting Something On Your List

It’s your day off and you finally have a chance to go to the store and catch up on errands. You write down a few essential supplies and then start shopping. You’re flying up and down the aisles, mentally crossing off each item as it enters the cart. Then you casually glance over your list one last time before you pay the cashier and head home. You start unloading your bags and realize that something is missing. You forgot to pick up something vital, one of the main reasons you went to the store. I call it the BLT Law because whenever I go to the store to get stuff for BLTs I come home with the bacon, lettuce and tomatoes, but no bread. I always forget the bread. Forgetting something on your list defeats the whole purpose of making a list. You wrote it down so that you wouldn’t forget it. But you still forgot it. Now you get to go all the way back to the store. Don’t you feel like a winner?

Waking Up Early On Your Day Off

I typically work six days a week, meaning that I’ll only have one day off to relax. But I can’t relax because I usually have a bunch of neglected errands to run. At the very least, you should be able to sleep in on your day off, but sometimes you can’t. Sometimes you have to set your alarm because you have too much shit to do. Waking up early on your day off sucks. But you’re an adult now and you have to pretend to be responsible. Reality fucking blows. I’d rather sleep in.
