Dr Pepper Cherry

If you’ve ever wondered what Dr Pepper with cherry would taste like, then you should try Dr Pepper Cherry. It’s Dr Pepper with cherry flavor added to it. It seems like a good idea, but it’s a little unnecessary. Dr Pepper has a unique taste because it blends 23 different flavors. Adding the cherry flavor makes it an even 24. It’s a lot for your taste buds to handle, and no single flavor steals the show. You can hardly taste the cherry. It just blends together with the Dr Pepper. I’m not that impressed with it. It’s a decent soda, but I’d rather have a Cherry Coke or a regular Dr Pepper. Or a beer.

Sunkist Strawberry Soda

Sunkist Strawberry Soda is a strawberry flavored soda. It has a good amount of strawberry-sugar sweetness. It might be a little too sweet to satisfy your thirst. It’s kind of like drinking a liquid Jolly Rancher. I don’t see strawberry soda that often, so I feel obliged to get it when I do. I wouldn’t get a six-pack, but I might buy a 20oz bottle for ninety-nine cents. That’s what I did today, and it’s been working out pretty well so far. It will never be in my top twenty-five sodas, but it’s nice to mix up your choices every now and then. Variety is the spice of life after all.

Big Blue

Big Blue is a blue beverage from the same company that makes Big Red. I’m trying it right now for the first time, and I think that it has a bubblegum flavor. At least, I’m guessing that is what it’s supposed to be. It just tastes blue to me. Blue is a fun flavor though. I’m not complaining. It has a very sweet, sugary, syrupy taste to it. I wouldn’t recommend it after you run a marathon. It’s not a thirst quencher. I don’t like to say soda pop, but Big Blue is the definition of a soda pop. It’s cheap and delicious and decidedly unhealthy. It costs 99 cents for a 20oz bottle. What a bargain. You’d be a fool not to get it.

Energizing Fruit Punch Kickstart by Mtn Dew

Kickstart by Mtn Dew is a new energy drink/soda that is a combination of Mtn Dew and fruit juice. It’s not Mountain Dew anymore… it’s Mtn Dew now. Pretty fucking extreme, right? There are two flavors available: Energizing Orange Citrus and Energizing Fruit Punch. I haven’t tried the Energizing Orange Citrus one yet, but I’m sipping on the Energizing Fruit Punch right now. It has kind of a weird taste, like watered down Mtn Dew mixed with a diet fruit punch flavored energy drink. There’s kind of an aftertaste. This is a stupid product. I don’t know why anyone would want to start off their day with a can of Mtn Dew mixed with fruit juice. This is a beverage that nobody wanted and nobody asked for. But they made it for some reason. Try it before they discontinue making it (which should be any second now).

Pepsi

Pepsi is an American cola that tries (and fails) to compete with Coca-Cola. It’s sweeter and less bitter than Coke, and you can tell the difference between the two if you ever do a blind taste test. It’s not a bad cola, it’s just not Coke. It tries to be hip and cool and more youth-orientated, but it’s been around since 1893 so they can’t keep pretending to be the new guy on the block. Anyway, there are two types of people in the world: Coke people and Pepsi people. Coca-Cola is the number one soda for a reason: it’s better. Pepsi just kind of exists as an alternative. It’s an inferior product for people who want to rebel against the status quo. Hipsters drink Pepsi and nobody wants to be a hipster. I’m not going to judge you if you prefer Pepsi over Coke, but I’ll know that I don’t want to be your friend.

Sunkist Orange Soda

I’m not a big fan of orange soda, but I grabbed a Sunkist today. I don’t know why. It was an impulse buy I guess. It’s not exactly breaking the bank at 99¢ for a 20 oz. bottle, but now I’m stuck with an orange soda that I don’t really want. It has a sweet and tangy candied orange flavor that tastes just like every other orange soda out there, but Sunkist contains caffeine unlike other brands. Caffeine makes soda better. I’m reading the label and I’m not seeing any evidence that there are any actual oranges or orange juice in it. The label describes Sunkist as an Orange Soda flavored with other natural flavors. That’s kind of cryptic and vague, not to mention completely unappetizing. All this time I thought it was called orange soda because it tastes like oranges and has oranges in it… apparently it’s just describing the color of the beverage.

Flat Soda

One of the best things about soda is that it’s carbonated. Bubbles are fun. There’s no denying that. They add pop and fizz and make the soda more enjoyable. And that’s why I can’t enjoy a flat soda. I had an opened 2 liter bottle of Coke in the fridge that I ignored for a few days too long. Now there’s no more carbonation. There’s no life to it. It’s still cold so I’ll drink it. But I’m going to grumble and complain and not enjoy it at all. If it was warm I’d pour it out. Warm flat soda tastes like piss. Bubbles are one of the best things about soda and you don’t realize how much they mean to you until they are gone. Bubbles or bust.

2-Liter Bottle of RC Cola

I know that I’ve written about RC Cola before. In fact, I gave it a terrible review and said that it was never worth getting again. That was before I saw that they only charge 99¢ for a 2-liter bottle of the stuff. That’s cheaper than bottled water. It’s still a mediocre soda, but it’s fucking cheap and so am I. Coca-Cola will always be my soda of choice, but sometimes my wallet has more influence than my taste buds. And on those occasions I shall grab a 2-liter bottle of RC Cola and ask you not to think less of me.

Diet Coke with Grenadine

I’ve been in the service industry for a few years now and I would always joke about someone ordering a diet soda with grenadine. It was never serious, it was just a hypothetical situation in which a fictional moron would order a sugar-free soda and add cherry flavored sugar to it. It’s the kind of thing that George Carlin would make a punchline out of, like getting a veggie burger with bacon on it. It’s why you don’t pour Red Bull in a decaf coffee.

And then one day a guy ordered a Diet Coke with grenadine. He was serious. My first instinct was to talk him out of it. But he insisted. If I have to contribute to somebody’s diabetes for a 20% tip then so be it. He even had refills. That was the day I lost all faith in humanity and he didn’t see anything wrong with it.  No wonder people hate Americans.

Cherry 7 Up

The classic lemon-lime soda gets a cherry flavor boost. Cherry 7 Up is essentially a prepackaged Shirley Temple without a cherry garnish. It’s not as sugary as a Shirley Temple that you would get in a restaurant because they use grenadine. It’s kind of refreshing, but also really sugary and syrupy. And there’s no caffeine. It’s a decent soda, but there are a thousand better drinks out there, and there’s no need to waste your time on this one.

Pepsi Wild Cherry

Have you ever wanted to try a Pepsi with cherry flavor added to it? Try a Pepsi Wild Cherry soda-pop. Pepsi is a little more extreme than Coke. Coke’s cherry cola just has regular, boring cherries. Pepsi uses Wild Cherries. That’s too much excitement for me. The cherry flavor is a little muted compared to most cherry colas, maybe wild cherries aren’t as sweet. It’s decent, but it is still a Pepsi. Pepsi lost the cola wars for a reason… Coke is better. There are a million sodas out there, try this once, and move on with your life.

Mountain Dew

Let me just call this an extreme soda and get that out of the way. Moving right along, Mountain Dew is a soda. I don’t know how to describe the flavor; it’s just Mountain Dew. It’s not a cola, root beer, lemon-lime, or cream soda… it’s very unique, they claim it is lemon-citrus flavored. All this time I thought lemon was a citrus. You either like the taste or hate it more than sand in your pants. The name comes from a slang term for moonshine. That’s why there’s a hillbilly on the retro bottles. It has caffeine, that’s always a plus. I wont even mention Mello Yello. Damn, ok, never mind.

Dr Pepper

Dr Pepper is a soda that has 23 flavors all competing to make one very unique soda. It’s dark like a cola, but you can’t define its taste. There is way too much going on. It’s pretty good though. It’s not that light; it’s not that refreshing, but sometimes you feel like a Dr Pepper. They spell it without a period after the Dr, so my spellcheck is going crazy. Yes, that’s how I want it spelled, leave me alone.

RC Cola

Royal Crown Cola has to be the most unnecessary cola. There’s Coke, Pepsi and weird store brand colas. But then some mediocre beverage companies want to crack into the cola market, like RC Cola or Jolt Cola. Jolt has a twice the caffeine gimmick that distinguishes it a little, but RC Cola tastes like a cheap store brand cola. It has a weird gritty taste compared to the delicious smoothness of Coca-Cola Classic. There is no reason to try this soda ever. Not even if you are reviewing it for your blog. Trust me.
