Ben & Jerry’s New Belgium Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale

I like beer. I like ice cream. Ben & Jerry’s New Belgium Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale combines the two. They use New Belgium Brown Ale ice cream and combine it with fudge brownies and salted caramel swirls. I was expecting to get a slight whiff of beer when I took off the lid, but it just smelled like normal ice cream. Well, I’ve never really smelled ice cream before but it didn’t seem to have much of an aroma at all. I took a spoonful and put it in my mouth. My first thoughts were that it was smooth and creamy and not much else. I took another bite, and then another, trying to find a distinguishing flavor, but there really isn’t one. It doesn’t taste like a brown ale at all. It’s bland. I can taste the caramel and brownies, but the New Belgium Brown Ale ice cream is more boring than vanilla. I was expecting an ice cream that tasted like beer. I just got ice cream. Meh. It’s a limited batch. It’s going away soon. Good.

Ben & Jerry’s Party

I had yesterday off. My roommate did too. So did his girlfriend. We all work in the restaurant industry. The fact that we all three of us had the same day off was a miracle. We celebrated by playing cards in the park while sipping on beer on wine, followed by a nice sushi meal, and we topped it off by buying several pints of Ben & Jerry’s. That’s right. We had an impromptu Ben & Jerry’s party. If you’re not jealous, there is something wrong with you. We got Coffee Toffee Bar Crunch, Americone Dream, half baked, and Cherry Garcia. That’s a pretty nice variety. Sure we could have gotten more, but there were too many decisions and we had too little time. We chose what we chose and I have no regrets.

We brought the pints home, we opened them up, we took a picture to post on social media, and we dished them out, devoured them, and went back for seconds. We made gluttons of ourselves. Food comas all around. It was glorious. It was like Thanksgiving. We all had to lie down after. We all went to bed early. The best part was that it wasn’t planned. It couldn’t be. If I told you that we should have a Ben & Jerry’s party soon, we would look at our calendars and plan it for Tuesday next week. Tuesday would roll around and we wouldn’t be in the mood for ice cream. We would postpone it, and postpone it, and postpone it again. It would never happen. It has to be spontaneous. We had a spontaneous Ben & Jerry’s party. I consider myself lucky.

Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Fudge Core

Ben & Jerry’s are known for their premium ice creams, and Peanut Butter Fudge Core is one of them. It’s a core of soft peanut butter fudge surrounded by chocolate and peanut butter ice creams with miniature peanut butter cups. There’s no way to describe it other than WOW!… It’s rich, creamy, smooth, chocolatey, and peanut buttery. I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t like peanut butter or chocolate or peanut butter cups. But if it sounds appetizing at all, well, you won’t be disappointed. Ben & Jerry’s make some of my favorite ice cream flavors and this might be one of them. Try it out if you get the chance.

Ice Cream Man

I was lucky enough to grow up in the suburbs in the days when kids still played outside.  There were a dozen other kids on my block around my age and we spent our summers outside riding bikes, playing games, and generally wreaking havoc. But we would drop whatever we were doing whenever the Ice Cream Man rolled around. We would be in the middle of an intense street hockey battle when somebody would suddenly hear a few bars of Do Your Ears Hang Low? and shout out, “ICE CREAM MAN!!!” The game would stop as everyone dropped their sticks and scattered back to their houses to scrape together enough quarters to buy a Choco Taco. Oh, the Ice Cream Man. I thought he had the best job in the world. He gets to drive around and eat ice cream all day. He was my hero, he was my idol, he was my savior on those unbearably hot August days. The Ice Cream Man seems to be a dying profession. For some reason there’s something about a 40-year-old guy in a van driving around giving treats to little kids that makes people suspicious.

Ben & Jerry’s That’s My Jam Core

Ben & Jerry’s recently released their line of Core ice creams, which are ice creams with an inner core of fudge, caramel, or jam. This way you always get the perfect spoonful of ice cream. That’s My Jam is chocolate and raspberry ice creams with fudge chips and a raspberry jam core. It tastes even better than it sounds. The chocolate ice cream is rich and creamy. The raspberry ice cream is sweet and smooth. The fudge chips give it a little texture and gives you an extra chocolatey kick in the mouth. The jam is soft, sticky, slightly sour, and it spreads easily to get the perfect swirl on your spoon. I generally prefer fruit flavors over chocolate, but this is a perfect medley of the two. This is a great ice cream and an amazing treat. Ben & Jerry’s Core lineup is the greatest innovation in ice cream technology since the invention of Dippin’ Dots.

Ben & Jerry’s Hazed & Confused Core

Ben & Jerry’s recently released new ice cream flavors that they dubbed Cores. They are called Cores because they have a core of fudge, caramel, or jam. It’s pretty brilliant idea, now you can have a perfect spoonful of ice cream every time. I bought a pint of Hazed & Confused Core as soon as I discovered them at the store. Hazed & Confused is chocolate and hazelnut ice creams with fudge chips and a hazelnut fudge core. The chocolate ice cream is smooth and rich, the hazelnut ice cream is creamy and nutty, the fudge chips add a little bit of crunch and texture, but the hazelnut fudge core steals the show. It’s basically a column of Nutella right smack in the middle of your pint. It’s beyond delicious. It’s indescribable how amazing this ice cream is. You have to try it. Like right now. Stop reading about Ben & Jerry’s Hazed & Confused Core and go buy a pint for yourself. You shan’t regret it.

Ice Cream Cone

An ice cream cone is dry, thin pastry shaped like a cone. You take the cone, add a scoop of ice cream, and there you go. It’s one of the best ways to serve ice cream. A lot of people eat ice cream from a bowl or directly from the carton, but cones have a few perks. Ice cream cones are more fun to eat. Bowls are boring. Plus you have to wash the bowl when you’re done eating. There’s no cleanup involved with a cone, you just eat the damn thing. And it tastes delicious. Most people don’t keep ice cream cones in their homes, so they become more of a treat. Cones make a happy food even better. Cones remind you of your childhood, of summer days and county fairs.

Helados Mexico Chicle

Helados Mexico Chicle is a bubblegum flavored premium ice cream bar from Mexico. What can I say about it? It’s blue. It tastes kind of like bubblegum, but they use milk and eggs to make it, so it has a weird creamy flavor to it. It doesn’t taste right. There are two piece of bubblegum at the bottom, but they are frozen so they might crack your teeth when you try to chew them. The gum is crumbly and brittle with absolutely no flavor, but it’s still two treats in one so it kind of redeems itself a little bit. But it’s still not enough for me to fully endorse this product. It would be good if it were a bubblegum flavored popsicle. Frozen bubblegum flavored dairy products on a stick don’t impress me. This is a misstep from Helados Mexico. For shame.

Ice Cream Cake

Cake is good but it also causes a lot of debate about which type of cake is the best. Some people like the classics like carrot cake or cheesecake, while others prefer red velvet or Tiramisu. There are a lot of cakes out there. There are a lot of options. But nothing beats ice cream cake. As soon as people start the next cake debate, all you have to do is mention ice cream cake and everyone will shut up in agreement. Ice cream cake is the ultimate dessert. It is just what it sounds like: cake made out of ice cream. It combines two of the best desserts of all time into one holy super dessert. Ice cream cake is a rare treat. You only see it on special occasions, like a going away party or for a Bar Mitzvah. I wish that wasn’t the case. I wish everyday was another day for ice cream cake. I think the world would be a better place.

Häagen-Dazs Green Tea Ice Cream

Häagen-Dazs has a lot of premium ice creams and Green Tea Ice Cream is one of them. Not only is it all natural but they also use Matcha green tea, which apparently is good stuff. Green tea ice cream is an oxymoron. How can you make a hot beverage into a cold dessert? And isn’t green tea herbal and ice cream dairy? What the hell is going on? But it works and it’s delicious. It might take a moment to get used to it, and it will never replace Vanilla, but it’s still worth getting. Me likey.

Ben & Jerry’s Karamel Sutra

Ben & Jerry’s Karamel Sutra is a core of soft caramel surrounded by chocolate and caramel ice creams and fudge chips. If that sounds intense, it is. It’s super rich and the caramel core is a big glob of sugary glop. It is extremely chocolately and caramely. In case you didn’t know it is named after the Kama Sutra, a delightful ancient Indian children’s story. It’s actually a sex book, making this flavor a very sexy pun. Props to Ben and his pal Jerry.

Ben & Jerry’s Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream

Ben & Jerry’s presents this vanilla ice cream with fudge covered pieces of waffle cone and swirls of caramel. The fudge coating keeps the cones nice and crispy. This is a very sweet and delicious ice cream with a nice crunchy texture. All in all, it is a good frozen treat. The American Dream might be dead, but this is an adequate substitute.

Ben & Jerry’s Banana Split

Banana and strawberry ice cream with walnuts, fudge chunks and fudge swirls. Seriously though, two different fruity ice cream flavors would be awesome enough, but throw in the crunch and chew that the fudge and nuts give, and you have an amazing texture. This tastes like a banana split. That’s what they were going for, so kudos to them.
