The Last Puzzle Piece

The last puzzle piece is the most important one. It could take hours or days to finish a puzzle, put putting that last piece down provides immense satisfaction. When I was a kid I had a tendency to hide a puzzle piece whenever I was doing a puzzle with friends or family. I wanted to be the one who put the final piece into place. I wanted the glory of completing it. If that meant being a little dick and hiding a piece, so be it. I finished the puzzle. Everyone else just helped. I did it.

Cutting the Cake

So it’s your birthday and it looks like someone bought you a cake. It says “Happy Birthday,” it has your name on it, and it has more candles than you would like to see on it. You think of a wish, you blow out all the candles, then you pluck out the candles and lick the frosting off of them, and then it’s time to cut the cake. Cutting the cake is the least fun part of the cake experience. It’s actually work. You have to cut a slice, plop it on a plate, and hand it to somebody. Then you cut another slice, plop it on a plate, and hand it to somebody else. Then you cut another piece, plop it on a plate, and hand it to another person, but that person doesn’t want too much frosting so you have to cut another piece with less frosting and you serve them that. And then somebody else wants a corner slice. And somebody else only wants half a slice. And somebody else wants a slice with blue frosting. You’re over it after cutting five or six slices. Everybody’s too demanding and nobody is satisfied. Let them cut their own fucking piece. It’s your birthday; you shouldn’t have to do anything.

Jenga

Jenga is a game that either builds friendships or destroys them. You start with a tower of wooden blocks 18 levels high with 3 blocks in each level. The goal of the game is to remove a block from a lower level and move it to the top of the tower without the whole thing collapsing. The longer the game goes on, the taller the tower gets, and it becomes more and more structurally unsound. Everyone takes turns pulling out a piece until the tower falls over. Then everyone yells out “Jenga!” and shrieks with glee while bystanders look on with disdain. The loser is whoever knocked over the tower. The winner is whoever removed the last piece successfully. Jenga was originally a kid’s game, but then I grew up and now it’s a drinking game. My local dive bar has a few Jenga sets and there’s a custom of writing something on a piece whenever you play. It’s a good way to commemorate a special event or talk shit to a future player. It’s fun to play with blocks. Reconnect with your inner child and play some Jenga.

Cleaning Your Piece

You probably have a pipe, bubbler and/or a bong if you smoke weed regularly. The more you use it, the more resin it accumulates. Too much resin and your piece gets clogged. If it’s too clogged you can’t smoke out of it. Then it’s time to clean it. You can get special cleaning supplies like Formula 420 and pipe cleaners, but salt, rubbing alcohol, and a paperclip will work just as well for half the cost. You get an odd sense of accomplishment from cleaning your piece that you don’t get from recycling beer cans. You shouldn’t be smoking drugs in the first place, but if you do then you should smoke from a clean and well-maintained piece.
