DeLorean DMC-12

The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most popular cars of the 1980s, as well as the most popular fictional time machine in history. Doc Brown used the famous stainless steel sports car with the iconic gull-wing doors as the basis for his time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy. Traveling back and forth in time never looked so stylish. The DMC-12 is instantly recognizable and has become a collector’s item, despite the fact that it’s honestly not that great of a car. It’s underpowered and shoddily built, but it still turns heads. They only manufactured them for a few years before owner John DeLorean got arrested for drug trafficking (the ‘80s were fucking awesome) and the company declared bankruptcy. I’ve seen a couple of DeLoreans driving around throughout the years and it’s always something to bond with strangers about. You don’t see DeLoreans every day so they stand out when they do. It’s a cool car because it is so decidedly ‘80s.

Flying On a Plane

Sticking to this airport theme that I have going here, let me just say that flying on a plane is the closest thing that we have to time travel. We are bending time and space whenever we fly from place to place. Now you can wake up in California and fall asleep in Paris. Do you realize how amazing that is? They would have called you crazy if you said that a hundred years ago. They would have burned you alive if you said that three hundred years ago. Flying on a plane is like cheating. An eight-hour drive becomes a two-hour flight. It makes the world a smaller and more accessible place. It’s a miracle of the Bill Nye variety. If you’re a nervous flier, I have some advice: remember that planes are designed to be in the air and ignore the fact that humans aren’t meant to fly. And go to the airport bar. That’s why it’s there.

A Song That Takes You Back

Sometimes you turn on the radio and you hear a song that you haven’t heard in years. And the memories start flooding back. A good song can take you places. You remember the first time you heard it, you remember blasting it and passionately singing off-key with your friends, you remember 8th grade dances and high school anthems, you remember summer nights and road trips, you remember the one who got away.

One of the most amazing things about music is that it’s a time machine. It brings you back to a time when you were happy and free and young. A song that takes you back is a gift, a treasure, and a treat.
