The Pretzel Incident

I went to a San Francisco Giants game last summer with a bunch of friends and the girl I was seeing at the time. We all bought tickets in different sections so we decided to move to the bleachers so we could all sit together. We sat in front of a spot that was empty except for an abandoned half-eaten pretzel and a pile of discarded peanut shells. I was sitting there watching the game, talking and laughing and enjoying being alive, and I turned to my girl to give her a kiss. But I couldn’t because she was eating a pretzel. I thought that was odd because we didn’t go on a food run yet. I asked her where she got the pretzel. She pointed to the spot behind me where the pile of discarded peanut shells was. The abandoned half-eaten pretzel was no longer there. It was in her hand. And her mouth. And I couldn’t even look her in the eye. It was horrible. It still is. And it’s come to be known as the Pretzel Incident. I pray you never experience it for yourself.

Voodoo Doughnut Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate Ale

Voodoo Doughnut Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate Ale is an American Brown Ale from Oregon’s Rogue Ales. Rogue is known for interesting and unique brews, and this is one of their more extreme offerings. It pours a dark brown with a creamy tan head. It has an intriguing aroma with chocolate and toasted malts, vanilla, raspberry, caramel, and coffee. It smells good, but it tastes even better. It’s sweet, chocolate, and you get the sweet and tangy sensation of raspberry, but and a hint of pretzel. It’s slightly salty and has bread/biscuit thing going on. It’s unlike any other brown ale I’ve tasted. You actually see the cocoa powder clinging to the side of the glass as you drink it. It has a decent 6.75% alcohol content and it makes for an excellent dessert beverage. I wouldn’t want to drink more than one though. It comes in a bright pink bottle with a gingerbread man-like voodoo doll on the label. It stands out on the shelf and that’s hard to do these days. This is a good beer and worth trying out, but I don’t think it will become your favorite beer.

Rold Gold Pretzel Tiny Twists

Pretzels are an underrated snack food. It seems like potato chips get all the attention. Rold Gold Tiny Twists are the basic bite-sized pretzels that you grew up with. They are salty and delicious. They make a great drinking food. They aren’t greasy and won’t leave any residue on your fingers. You can pop them into your mouth by the handful or you can break one up into smaller pieces and take your time eating it. And the salty flavor makes you want to drink more. And any excuse to drink more is ok with me.
