Picking Up Something a Stranger Dropped

I was walking to work the other day and I saw a guy drop a piece of paper on the ground without noticing. There was a family walking the opposite direction and the son stopped to pick it up, ran after the guy, and handed it back. The guy thanked him, the son nodded in return, and then everybody resumed walking. I took a second to appreciate the moment. It was probably just a receipt, but the kid didn’t even hesitate to help him out. He did it instinctively. Picking up something a stranger dropped is a simple act of kindness that can go a long way. It proves that there are still good and decent people in the world. You aren’t obliged to do it, you do it because you would want someone to do the same for you. You do it because you were raised right. You do it because you can do it. The next time you see a stranger drop something, pick it up, give it back, and make their day a little bit better.

Picking Things Up With Your Toes

Picking things up with your toes is a useful skill. It’s perfect for when you drop a small object while you’re barefoot and you’re too lazy to lean over to pick it up. You’ll be able to recover a dropped fork without crawling under the table. It might not be hygienic, but it gets the job done. You should practice picking things up with your feet. Start with a pen or keys and work your way up to larger objects like cell phones. Once you’re skilled enough, you’ll be able to able to feed grapes to your lover with your hands tied behind your back. The ability to pick things up with your toes is proof that we evolved from monkeys. It’s in our DNA. It’s a skill that we need to bring back.

Picking Up a Coworker’s Shift

You have the day off and plan on taking advantage of it. Until your phone rings. It’s your coworker and she wants to know if you’ll pick up her shift today. You politely say no, but she senses weakness and keeps on pressing you. She starts begging and whining and bullshitting why she needs you to work for her. She starts offering incentives like picking up any shift that you don’t want. You know she won’t ever actually return the favor, but at this point you just agree to work for her so she’ll shut up. So she ends up with the day off and you end up at work. How did that happen? I guess it’s better to make money but I prefer being lazy.
