Joints

Joints are small marijuana cigarettes. They are probably the most common way to get high. Very common in public, they are seen at concerts and in public parks and high school bathrooms. Desirable for deviants because as you smoke, you burn away the evidence. They can be harsh, because you inhale directly. It is constantly burning, so sometimes the wind smokes half of the joint.

Spliffs are joints that have tobacco added to the marijuana. You get a little bit of a buzz from the tobacco, and it makes for a different high. Very popular with Europeans and East Coasters. Always check with your smoking buddy before you add tobacco , its just courtesy.

Chillums

Chillums or sneak-a-tokes are smaller, easily concealable pipe. They usually are just the bowl and the chamber. Some look like cigarettes and can only handle a hit or two at a time. Great for concerts or when you need to sneak away before Thanksgiving dinner.

Bubblers

Bubblers are the culmination of glass smoking technology. Bubblers combine the portability of a hand pipe with the water filtration of a bong. There are usually one, two or three chambers which are partially filled with water that filters and cools the smoke, allowing the smoker a better tasting and less harsh hit.  Two or three chambers are ideal for the cleanest, best tasting smoke. One chamber can get dirty real quick, and there is nothing worse than an accidental taste of nasty bubbler water.

They are best if the pipe is cleaned and the water changed once a week. A little salt and rubbing alcohol will keep your pipe clean and new looking. Glass pieces are works of art, you have to take care of them to maintain their allure.

Bongs

Bongs are water filtered and have a large chamber to hold smoke. They have a stem with a removable bowl to clear the chamber. The water cools and filters the smoke and so you get massive hits.

They are made of different materials. Cheaper ones are made of plastic. Real bongs are usually made of glass. Glass is better. Roor bongs and other glass on glass pieces are the best.

Bongs can be anywhere from 8 inches to over 5 feet long. I think the optimal height is 2-3 feet for general use around the house. Great around the house, but they are too big and delicate to take with you everywhere.

Blunts

Blunts are like marijuana cigars. You roll the weed and wrap it in a gutted cigar or with a prepackaged blunt wrap. Probably the best way to get a group of people high before a movie or at a party. Also great if you have bammer weed. They can be harsh because you inhale directly. It wastes your weed if you smoke them all the time. You have to use around a gram or more for a decent blunt, and if you have a high quality strain you can’t enjoy the flavor and nuances of the plant.
