Another New Year’s Eve

Cheers to another New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year. You celebrate it by getting drunk, drinking champagne, and trying to make out with someone at midnight. It’s one of those nights that you’ll plan ahead days, weeks, or months in advance, but you’ll always be disappointed if you have expectations. It has the potential to be amazingly epic if you just wing it and go with the flow. New Year’s Eve is also a time of reflection, a time to think of all the broken promises you’ve made to yourself over the last year. It’s also the time to pat yourself on the back for your many small victories. You’re another year older and another year wiser, and now you get to celebrate. 2013 was awesome but now it’s time to experience 2014. I hope you all stay safe and wish you all a Happy New Year!

End of the Year Montage Videos

We are in the final two weeks of 2013, which means that you’re about to experience a flood of End of the Year montage videos, lists, countdowns, and Year in Review hoopla in your Facebook feed. This is a time for reflection, a time to remember all the big news stories, untimely deaths, and memorable sports moments that made 2013 the crazy year it was. We celebrate the conclusion of each year with montage videos to remind us of all the stuff that we’ve already forgotten about. Expect to hear the hit singles of 2013 edited to media clips of natural disasters, suffering people, civil unrest and citizen uprisings, Pope Francis, Obamacare, the US Government shutdown, whistleblowing, school shootings, the Boston Marathon bombing, disgraced politicians, underrated miracles, and Miley Cyrus twerking and wrecking-balling. Kim and Kanye also want to remind you that they had a baby. 2013 was a fun year. And it looks better in a montage.

2013 MLB ALCS/NLCS

The baseball season is winding down and right now four teams are trying to get to the World Series. The Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox are competing for the American League Pennant, and the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers are competing for the National League Pennant. The two Pennant winners get to play each other in the World Series to determine the championship team. All four teams are solid, all of them deserve to be there, there are no underdogs… and that’s bad for baseball. In fact, it’s terrible for baseball. The Tigers were just in the World Series last year. They got swept by the San Francisco Giants in four games. The Cardinals won the year before in 2011. The Red Sox won it in miracle fashion in 2004 and then again in 2007. That wasn’t that long ago. And the Dodgers have one of the highest payrolls and most star-studded lineups in baseball, and have turned themselves into the Yankees of the West. You either love them or hate them, but you still have to respect them. And unless you’re a fan of one of those four teams, you probably don’t care who wins. In fact, you probably want all of them to lose. I know I do. Especially the Dodgers. I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky that the Yankees didn’t even make the playoffs, but I’ve got to bitch about something. All four of those teams are legitimate contenders. And that bores me.

New Year’s Day

Congratulations, you made it to another year. Hopefully you wake up with a headache and a hangover and someone lying next to you. That’s usually a good indication of a great New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Day is like hitting the reset button. A new year is a new start. Most people have a list of New Year’s Resolutions like quitting smoking or saving more money. Most people give up by February, but at least you tried to change. It’s not worth much, but it’s worth something. 2013. It’s officially the future. Can we stop doing Gangnam Style now? Please?

New Year’s Eve

Holy shit, it’s the last night of the year! Time to get drunk and reminisce on 2012. New Year’s Eve is one of the most popular holidays. It’s celebrated around the world, across all religions and ages. Everyone is looking for some place to be at midnight. Little kids and old people celebrate quietly at home, while everybody else is at a party, either on the street, in a club, or at somebody’s house.

New Year’s Eve is all about midnight. The whole day is building up to midnight. There are fireworks and champagne and making out at midnight. Everyone asks where you’re going to be at midnight, and the next day everyone asks where you were at midnight. You’re almost never where you wanted to be at midnight. I’ve spent midnight in cars going to bars, I’ve spent it running down the sidewalk trying to get to a party before the ball dropped, I’ve spent it with random semi-friends in strange cities. The problem with NYE is that it’s too overhyped. You want it to be perfect and it never will be. Hollywood lied to you. You’ll never be happy.
